Artworks by Albrecht Dürer
Poems by Sarah Campbell
A 1968 illustrated paperback of Dürer artworks came into my possession a few years ago. It describes his life and work, accompanied by 80 full-color plates. This book has been on my bedside table for the past 6 months, and now I’m pairing the plates with some of my poems. These poems were not written for or with the artworks in mind. That said, “Words with Dürer” is some kind of conversation—about what yet, I’m not sure.
Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) was a German painter, printmaker, mathematician, and theorist of the Renaissance. His works are numerous and his reputation large. He depicted hares, hands, himself, and others.
